Salvemini Refuses To Laud Italy Plans

Historian Balks at Censure Of Speech on Foreign Policy

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"Keep your money and go to hell" exclaimed Gaciano Salvemini, Lauro do Basis lecturer in the history of Italian civilization, after the Hollywood Writers Congress had cancelled his lecture for criticizing President Roosevelt's handling of Italian politics.

Salvemini, who calls himself an 18th century liberal, is teaching history at the University of California during the present term. He was a member of the Italian Parliament from 1919 to 1921 and was exiled in 1925 by Mussolini for his liberal views.

"Unless there is a definite assurance that you do not attack the United Nations or the politics of the United States as embodied in the Atlantic Charter and the Teheran agreement we feel we cannot have you as a guest," said the Congress is cancelling the historian's debate which was scheduled for last Saturday in Hollywood, California.
