Varsity Hopes to Baffle Holy Cross

Deception May Fool Weighty Grusaders

By William S. Fairfield

Deception was the by world of yesterday's Varsity football practice as Dick Harlow prepared his charges to meet a Holy Cross eleven which will have a weight advantage of 21 pounds per man.

"DiGangi (the Purple's starting left guard) is bigger than desk," said backfield coach Bob Margarita last night, indicating an antique model in the corner of Dillon Field House. "You can bet we won't try to run over him much Saturday, but a big man like that can't follow a change of direction," he pointed out.

Surprise move of yesterday's spirited session was the shift of former third-string quarterback Jim Noonan to starting tailback. Noonan's accuracy and drive brought on the change.

Wally Flynn's indoctrination at full-back continued, with Sam Adams and George Goodrich also filling in at the weakened spot.

Center Undecided

The center position provides the biggest question mark in Saturday's Soldiers Field struggle. With regular Chuck Glynn's forearm in a cast, his play definitely will be limited. Substitutes Don Stone and Steve Howe, who have seen only limited action so far this year, will be called upon to share the bulk of the action.

The probable starting lineup:

Le, Coulson; it, Houston; lg, Drvaric; c. Glynn or Stone; rg, Feinberg; rt, Pierce; re, Hill; qb, O'Donnell; lhb, Noonan; rhb, Gannon; fb, Lazzaro.
