HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
The simultaneous evaporation of the football season and Cambridge weekends from the Northampton scene has left the Smith College newspaper with a romantic hangover.
Camouflaging her nostalgia behind a five-paragraph facade of labored derision--"the Harvard man is stooped, bespectacled, and loathes football"-- SCAN's own Mary Latson finally reveals her true sentiments with a jealous blast at Radcliffe monopoly. "Where there's Harvard, there's ALWAYS Radcliffe," she wails.
Less wealth-conscious than the Yales, less collegiate than the Dartmouths, the sophisticated gentlemen from the banks of the Charles also are rated "handsome, witty, and considerate."
Miss Latson takes pains to explain that Leverett House is dubbed the "bunny hutch" from its coat of arms, "and not for any other reason."
