Schwebel Attends UNESCO Meeting For U.N. Council

College Group Receives Special Invitation to Conference

Harvard's United Nations Council, represented by Stephen M. Schwebel '50, will be the only independent college group represented at the National UNESCO Conference opening in Philadelphia tomorrow.

Object of the conference will be to outline the broad functions of the U.S. Commission and the procedures by which organizations and individuals can assist in obtaining support of its program.

Few Invitations Issued

Invitations to the University group, one of a few such organizations so honored, came as the result of the Committee's "outstanding work" in the fields of UNESCO's proposed activities." Schwebel said the the Council's executive board was "extremely happy at the invitation."

Schwebel will take part in committee work on the Community participation and Teaching programs of UNESCO. Altogether 14 different groups will work in committee at the conference.
