Cambridge police ordered 14 cars towed away last week as their campaign against night-time parking violations by out-of-state cars hit full stride.

Automobiles not bearing Massachusetts license plates which have been parked illegally on streets around the Houses are being towed away at the rate of two or three a night--and students who own the cars are paying five dollars for the "service."

The Ellery Garage is the chief beneficiary of the local gendarmerie's efforts. They collect not only the five dollar towing charges but also a dollar-a-day storage.

Students, unaware that their cars are parked in the garage, have waited over a day before claiming them, and then have paid only after protesting the fee, the Ellery manager reported yesterday. He expected an increase in his business as the campaign gets stronger.
