Rules Set for Foreign Study

Veterans Administration officials yesterday outlined requirements for veterans who wish to pursue summer study ahead.

The veteran must obtain a better of acceptance from the VA-approved foreign school he plans to attend, and secure a supplemental certificate of eligibility from his VA regional office. Both these documents are used as evidence in securing passports and visas from the State Department.

VA recommended that study be taken at schools in countries served by an Attache of Veteran Affairs since presence of these officials expedites payment of subsistence allowances. These nations include Great Britain, Mexico, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Belgium, and records of veterans attending schools there need not be shipped overseas.

However, records of veteran-students selecting any other country for summer study must be transferred to that nation. Such transfers, the VA explained, often result in lengthy delays.
