Distributors Are At Fault, Says UT

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University Theater refused to settle its differences with the Liberal Union last Thursday because it cannot change film distributors' relations with the HLU.

Only distributors have restricted HLU film releases, said U. T. manager Stanley Sumner yesterday.

Sumner stated that it is a common film trade practice to refuse movies to non-theatrical enterprises which might compete with 32mm exhibitors. However, he did not comment on what prompted distributors like RKO Radio Pictures Inc. and United World Films to cut off the HLU film supply.

Sumner also added that he did not bear any grudges toward the HLU. But the actions of distributors were necessary to protect movie theaters against unfair competition. In recent weeks RKO and United World have cut the HLU from its supply of movies.
