Deacons Win 3-2 To Escape Cellar

The prettily tailored ballplayers of Kirkland, last year's champion club, battled their way out of the League cellar yesterday by edging Dunster, 3 to 2, leaving the Funsters alone in last place. Another event in the bottom division of the House League was Dudley's 15 to 2 victory ever Leverett.

Dunster pitchers Jerry Ulin, as usual with almost no support, was able to give his team a 2 to 0 lead over Kirkland until the last inning.

As the bottom half of the final frame began, Deacon Miller Higgins drew a walk, then stole second. The Dunster catcher's throw went into Centerfield, and while the outfielders were looking for it, Higgins traveled home. Another Dunster error and a single by Deacon Quint Stiles accounted for Kirkland's other two runs.

The Commuters made 12 hits and only one error while slaughtering the unstable Leverett team.

In softball Eliot downed, Lowell, 6 to 2, and Winthrop nipped Adams, 9 to 3.

Winthrop defeated: Elliot, 1 to 1, and Undley defeated Dunster, 4 to 1.
