University officials are "very pleased" with the final figures for student automobile registration, Charles C. Pyne, assistant to the vice-president, revealed last night.
In an official statement, Pyne said that 2,344 members of the University had registered their cars at the University Police office before last Friday's deadline. Last year's registration total was approximately 1800.
Early last week, vice-President Reynolds warned that if students cooperated poorly in registration and parking, the University might have to ban all automobiles. Reynolds said, however, that this move was still "very far in the future."
According to Pyne's figures, there are still about 100 places left in the undergraduate parking lot on Western Avenue. In addition to the 144 spits taken by undergraduates, an overflow from the Business School lots has filled 56 spaces. The Graduate School lots are filled to capacity, with one extra student waiting for a cancellation.
