Army Stands Behind Use of Comic Book

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The U.S. Army is standing squarely behind its own version of that popular American institution, the comic book.

In answer to criticism of a comic book used for recruiting students for the R.O.T.C., the Army said this week that the books had done a lot in raising enrollments above the normal percentages even though college enrollment went down.

Three college R.O.T.C. commanders have turned down the book "Time for Decision. Yale thought it was below the dignity of its students, and Colonel Charles P. Summerall of Harvard, professor of Military Science, "saw fit not to distribute it." The commander at Rhode Island State College was the latest to object.

The book tells of the success of a young man who joins the R.O.T.C.

Army spokesman Lt, Col. Robert D. Burhans said 99 per cent of reports on the comic book were favorable. "It went over very well in the Midwest, and we had some very nice comments from the South."
