Debaters Retain Ivy League Lead

The Debate Council maintained first place in the Ivy League by defeating Columbia last night in the Dunster House Junior Common Room.

William C. Becker '51, president of the Council, and Richard W. Hulbert '51 successfully supported the affirmative on the topic, "Resolved: That members of the Communist Party should be barred from the faculties of American colleges and universities."

The Crimson speakers took the stand that a Communist by definition has closed his mind to all but one economic and political philosophy. A man who does not have an open mind, they argued, is unfit to teach. The judges gave the local team the edge, 75 to 74.
