An outbreak of cheating errupted again at Yale this year, when students rifled 18 trays of rock specimens in a geology lab to learn what they would be examined on the next day.
A lab assistant, Kent Bushnel, discovered the theft at 9:45 a.m. Monday evening. Several students were in the lab when he walked into the room, which had been specially opened so that students might study the rocks before the exam. None of these students were connected with the rifling.
Last summer all students at Yale were sent a letter by the Dean of the College pointing out that cheating had become a serious problem at Yale. For the past year and a half agitation for the honor system at Yale has been evident.
