Charles R. Cherington '35, associate professor of Government, yesterday made public his resignation from the Massachusetts Americans for Democratic Action.
Cherington, a Republican, charged that the "A.D.A. in this state has degenerated into a professional group of Democratic tub-thumpers."
He said that when he joined the organization over a year ago, he thought "that it supported all liberals, including Republicans, but it turns out it's a bunch of liberals with Democratic stripes." In a letter answering a request for his January A.D.A. dues, Cherington attacked the Democratic party in Massachusetts, branding it a "contemptible group, especially Dever."
Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. '38, associate professor of History and a member of the A.D.A. state board, said he had but one comment on Cherington's resignation: "So what? His arguments are self-refuting."
