Someone has dubbed Senior Prom weekend at Vassar "Southern Scandal." If you're planning to attend anyhow, you may expect to find a cocktail party (spontaneous) in the Alumnae House between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a Candlelight Dinner in Main Hall (spontaneous) at 7 p.m. The Prom will start at 9 p.m.
The Directions: Proceed by normal route to Wellesley Hills (11 miles), take Route 9 to Westbore (21 miles), switching southward on Route 20 to Sturbridge (26 miles), switch south again on route 15 to East Hartford (30 miles). Take the last turnoff before the Charter Oak toll bridge on Main Street, East Hartford. Turn left on Connecticut Boulevard (Route 44). Stay on Route 44 to Canton (16 miles). Switch to Route 4 through Torrington to Sharon (42 miles). Take Route 343 to Amenia, New York (5 miles), then 44 again to Raymond Avenue stoplight (24 miles). Turn left on Raymond and proceed to the main gate of Vassar College. Total mileage: 187
