Princeton Whips Tennis Team, 8-1

The varsity tennis team did as well as expected in two matches played away over the weekend as it defeated Columbia Friday, 7 to 2, and lost to Princeton Saturday, 8 to 1. Paul Tobias, playing sixth singles, was the only man to win for the Crimson both days.

Charlie Ufford was the standout against the Lions as he won at the first single spot, 6-0, 6-0. He teamed with Art French in the number two doubles to win that, too. French playing three and Dave Watts at four also won in singles. Bob Bramhall also won twice, at second singles and first doubles with Bill Goodman.

Saturday it was a different story as only Tobias won, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. The third doubles match with Gerry Murphy and Watts playing for the Crimson was the only other one which even went to three sets.

John Rauh, the newly elected captain of the freshman team, led it to a near upset of the Harvard graduates here Saturday.
