Reischauer Describes Red Party's Loss of Voters' Support in Japan

Japan's Communist party is through for a while, according to Edwin O. Reischauer, professor of Far Eastern Languages and Literature.

Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Council last night, Reischauer said that the violent nature of the Communist party in Japan, coupled with the large number of Koreans in the party, swing mass support to the socialists.

Reischauer suggested that Japanese trade with Red China is almost mandatory, since Japan cannot support itself for long without it. He also said that if the U.N. is to succeed as an international organization Red China will have to be included whenever the Korean War is brought to an end.

"Aid to Asia in economic and even more cultural fields," he said, "can only be done through the United Nations." He added that the Chinese will not be able to substal on Russian aid alone.
