Med School Professor Shows New Germ Find

Some germs are now immune to penicillin, Dr. Maxwell Finland, associate professor of Medicine, revealed last week in a report of work he had done at the Boston City Hospital.

Finland said there had been "an appreciable number of fatalities" among patients who become infected with penicillin-resistant germs of the staphylococcus group. Most infections from this germ are minor, however, and cause irritations such as boils.

This is the first complete report of patients picking up germs already drug-resistant, although previous cases have been known where germs in one patient became immune.

Finland warned penicillin must be restricted from use in all cases of common colds unless there is danger of serious infection.
