Carroll M. Lowenstein '52, captain of the 1951 varsity football team, has been named to the third team of the All-Army football squad, the Associated Press reported yesterday.
Lowenstein, five ft., eight in. tailback, was drafted after the third game of last season. His playing that year had been hampered by the aftereffects of a leg fracture sustained in spring practice.
At the time Lowenstein was called into service Coach Lloyd Jordan explained that Ivy League eligibility rules would prohibit Lowenstein's playing for the Crimson after his discharge.
"We'll probably have a coaching job open for him," Jordan said then, "if he comes back, here to finish his education."
Lowenstein was a specialist in precision passing from his tailback spot.
At present, the only veteran on the local football scene is guard Donald F. Weber '53, who served two years in Korea with the Ohio National Guard, and who was discharged just before College opened in September.
