Deacon 'A' Basketball Team Edges Winthrop, Remains in Title Race

Kirkland's "A" League basketball team beat Winthrop last night 52 to 46 at the I.A.B. to stay in the running for the crown. High scorer for the Deacons was Jim Urdan, netting 17 points. A win for Kirkland against first place Lowell this Friday would tie the league championship. In other "A" League games the AROTC lost to Lowell 37 to 25, and Adams sunk the NROTC 26 to 24. "B" League scores were: Dudley 38, Lowell 32; Winthrop 48, Kirkland 28.

All House swimmers competed at the Blockhouse in two triangular meets and a dual meet. Leverett murdered Dunster 40 to 8 with Lowell Sachnoff winning three events, two relays and an individual. Other contests saw the favored Eliot team tied 24 to 24 by an Adams win in the last event. Kirkland beat Lowell and Dudley 38 to 10 and 49 to 5 while the Bellboys crushed the Commuters 34 to 12. Adams and Eliot swamped Winthrop 40 to 7 and 39 to 7.

The basketball championship was decided when Weld South beat Holworthy 39 to 31. High scorer for Weld was Warren Pyle, sinking 18 points. Bud Ingolds by led the Holworthy squad with 15.
