Joc Zabilski's Northeastern basketball team faces the varsity at 8:15 p.m. tonight at the IAB in what Crimson Coach Norm Shepard rates a "tossup" game.
The Huskies sparked by forward Joe Wetzler and center Bill Cahill, have compiled a just-under .500 record against local competition.
The Crimson will probably play without the services of Captain Dick Lionette, sidelined with a bad cold. "I doubt-seriously whether he will play," Shepard added. Lionette has been in bed for several days.
Manning to Start
Replacing Lionette will be sophomore Dick Manning starting his first varsity game. Otherwise, the starting lineup remains unchanged with Bill Dennis and Harry Sacks at forward posts and Ed Condon and Ed Krinsky at the guards.
Teaming with Wetzler and Cabill, both 6'4", in the Husky forward line will be Bud Costello, 6'3". Bill Wakefield and Tony Fasciano, both 5'11", are slated to open at guard spots.
Shepard looks for a good game. "We've been playing better ball recently," he said. He explained that experience and poise are beginning to aid the team.
The Crimson team recently beat Dartmouth, but lost to Columbia in ther last two Ivy League outings.
Hurst Moved Up
In the 6:45 p.m. preliminary, the Yardling five battles Northeastern's freshmen. Coach Floyd Wilson has moved John Hurst to a starting guard post with Howie Adler, while Captain Warren Kantrowitz will start at center, and Bob Bowman and Bruce Downey will open at forward positions. The freshmen have won eight games in nine starts.
