Crimson fencers face their biggest test of the season today when they travel to New York to compete in the ninth annual Pentagonal Championships.
Sporting a two and one record, the fencers will meet Army, Navy, Princeton, and Yale in the round-robin affair. The West Pointers, defending champions in the tourney, already hold a victory over the Crimson. The three other schools are also expected to enter strong teams.
Coach Edo Martin has named nine men for the trip. He plans to use Jan Jertson, Steve Chandler, and John Hamel in the foil; Harry Ziel, Bob McConaughy, and Bob Marsetta in the saber; Captain George McNair, Phil Erard, and Les Scherer in the epee.
The Crimson has beaten Boston University and M.I.T. since its opening loss to Army. Next week the fencers return to New York to cross swords with Columbia.
