Crimson Jayvees Meet Dean Today At Solders Field

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Jayvee football team will try again this afternoon for its first win of the season, when it meets a perennially strong Dean Academy squad on Soliders Field at 2:30.

Coach Norm Shepard, whose eleven lost its opener to Brown last week, 14 to 0, has promoted two backfield men to starting positions for the game. They are Dave Homes and Ed Galvin, both sophomores, who will start at left half and fullback, respectively.

Rittenburg Fullback

Other regulars in the Crimson backfield are halfback. Jim Damis, whom Shepard called "the best man on the field" in the Brown game, and Joo Crehore, who will quarterback the T-formation offense. Varsity track captain Bob Rittenburg is also slated for action at fullback, and will get a chance to run with the ball on various pitchout plays, Shepard said.

As usual, the J.V. squad has spent most of its time this week running opposition plays against the varsity and has had little chance to develop its own offense. Thus the plays called by quarterback Crehore this afternoon will consist largely of those that Columbia is expected to use in the Stadium tomorrow.

Starting in the line for the Jayvees will be Tony Markella at left end, Bill Markos at left tackle, Art Ticknor at left guard, Lou Newell at center, Sam Quatarone at right guard, Joe Giampa at right tackle, and Dick Brickman at right end.
