Yale Eleven Tops Yardlings, 20-0

An undefeated Yale freshman football team, sparked by 11 key passes of quarterback Dick Winterbauer, defeated the Yardling squad yesterday, 20 to 0, to extend its winning streak to 12 straight games over the last two years.

Only once during the entire contest did the defense-minded Crimson even threaten to score. The first half ended as the Yardlings brought the ball down to the Eli six-yard line.

The muddy field, which helped to stop the Crimson offense, was no problem for Winterbauer, co-captain of the Yale team. In the first period the quarterback threw three 15-yard aerials to end John Pendexter and then tossed to Bob Sigal from six yards out for the Elis' first score.

Winterbauer's passes set up the second Blue touchdown at the beginning of the fourth period. Two consecutive completed passes brought the ball from the Eli 40-yard line down to the Crimson eight. Tom Taylor bucked over for the touchdown.

The Yardlings tried desperately to counter with a passing attack of their own, but Crimson receivers dropped or failed to reach most of tailback Walt Stahura's attempts. The Crimson's only two completed passes gained no appreciable yardage.

The Elis added their final tally in the last minutes of the game on a 65-yard run by Jim Kinney.
