HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
Warren J. MacIsaac '54 and Joseph W. Mitchell '54 won the two first prizes of $35 each in the Boylston Speaking Contest yesterday evening. Paul D. Shoats '54, former president of the Student Council, presided.
Three second prizes of $25 each were awarded to Stephen E. Banker '55, Thomas Gaydos '54, and Donald G. Richards '56.
Senator Charles J. Innes, majority floor-leader in the State Senate, served as chairman of the board of judges. The other two judges were State Senator Edmund Dinis and the Rev. Mr. Samuel H. Miller.
All the speakers gave seven-minute literary recitations, excerpts ranging from George Orwell to James Thurber.
