July Draft Call Hiked 20 Percent to 23,000

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Selective Service officials announced Saturday that the July draft call will be 20 percent higher than the average for the last five months, but denied that the hike had any connection with the current crisis in Indochina.

The July total will be 23,000, an increase of over 5,000 above averages in the last five months.

Secretary of Army Robert T. Stevens said the Army would need most of the increased call because it is entering a period of heavy turnover in personnel. He explained that in the next few months, most of the enlistments of Korean veterans would run out.
