Olympic Day Today Starts Fund Drive

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Today has officially been named as National Olympic Day by President Eisenhower. It is designed as the kick-for the Olympic Fund Drive to send American athletes to the 1956 games. The winter part of the competition will be held at Certains, Italy, from Jan. 26 through Feb. 5. And the summer program runs from Nov. 22 through December 3 at Melbourne, Australia.

The drive unofficially began two days ago in Madison Square Garden in New York City where national ranking athletes competed in a giant meet. Tonight over 100 Olympians--former competitors, coaches and officials from the past 12 Olympic Games--meet in Smith House in Cambridge as the New England observance of the Day.
