'58 Sextet Crushes Princeton, 14-1; Basketball Team Defeats Andover

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The freshman hockey, basketball and fencing teams won easily Saturday, but the track squad and the "B" squash team were edged in close matches.

SKATERS WHIP PRINCETON

The Yardling hockey team drubbed a hapless Princeton sextet, 14 to 1, at the Watson Rink Saturday to remain undefeated. The freshmen will seek their 17th straight victory tomorrow against Brown at 7 p.m. in the Lynn Arena.

The Tiger Clubs scored their lone goal at 1:32 of the first period and then attempted to keep the score down. By the last period, however, it became questionable whether they could get the puck out of their own zone. Bob Cleary led the scoring with four goals and Lyle Guttu, Dave Beadie, and Alex Kalil added two more apiece.

QUINTET TOPS ANDOVER, 76-52

Sharp outside shooting and a fast break that Andover couldn't handle brought the freshman basketball team a 76 to 52 victory Saturday at the I.A.B.

The freshmen threw the ball away often in the second half, but Andover failed to take advantage, as John Rockefeller's 12 points led the second-half drive. Tony Massari was high scorer with 14 points, and Rockefeller and Tom Bernheim tied for second with 12.

FENCERS DEFEAT RIVERDALE

With Mike Klapper undefeated in the foil and Robert Adair unbeaten in epee, the freshman fencing team set back Riverdale School, 18 to 9, Saturday at the I.A.B. The well-balanced Yardling squad piled up 6 to 3 victories in foil, sabre and epee.

Newly-elected captain Klapper won two out of three in the foil, a feat matched by Douglas Runnels and David Silbert in sabre and Philo Holcomb in epee.

ANDOVER EDGES TRACKMEN

Despite double victories by Dave Schein and Pete Reider, the Andover track team nosed out the freshman team 54 2/3 to 53 1/3 at Andover Saturday. Schein won the weight throw and discus, and Reider captured the 600 and 1000.

Andover won by scoring sweeps in the shot put, hurdles and pole vault. The other Crimson winners were Tom Zierk, who took the broad jump, and Dave Norris, who won the mile run.

The freshman B squash team lost, 3 to 2, at Andover Saturday.
