Crimson Players Gain 3-3 Record On Tennis Tour

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Crimson tennis players returned to Cambridge last night after a tiring Southern road trip during which they won three matches and lost three.

The unseasoned squad displayed much improvement towards the end of the trip, "and although we are beginning to get our house in order in doubles, we still need a lot of practice," Coach Jack Barnaby said last night.

Opening April 3, the Crimson defeated the Country Club of Virginia at Richmand, 6-3. On Monday and Tuesday, however, the perennially powerful North Carolina team trimmed the Crimson 14-1, both days, despite a lineup switch by Barnaby.

Presbyterian Gets Revenge

At Clinton, South Carolina, on Wednesday, the squad played excellent tennis, edging Presbyterian College 8-7, but suffered a vengeful defeat Thursday, 12-3.

At Annapolis, April 9, Alex Haegler and Brooks Harris salvaged their final doubles match after being down five games to three in the third set, and pulled the team to a "hair raising" 5-4 victory. Conrad Fischer, Maynard Can field, and Harris played especially strong singles against the Middies.

"With Harris's backhand looking much more consistent than last year, and with plenty of unseasoned, yet very good material to work with, all we can do now is proactive," Barnaby said.

On a similar trip last spring, the varsity split four matches and tied Navy. Both losses were to North Carolina.
