The University has announced the formation of a 12-man Committee on Applied Mathematics and Statistics, to inform and advise the Administration of necessary curricular changes in the two areas.
John H. Van Vleck, Dean of the Division of Applied Science, will be the chairman of the committee.
Dean Van Vleck said yesterday that the committee would seek to "integrate and examine the two fields." Statistics needs a complete overhauling, Dean Van Vleck said, while Applied Mathematics, which already has a comprehensive curriculum, will probably require only minor additions.
The committee will try to evaluate the Mathematics program, and give an analysis of its needs, Van Vleck said.
