Ex-Dean Pound Awarded Grant

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Roscoe Pound, University Professor Emeritus and Dean of the Law School from 1916-36, has been awarded the $15,000 William Volker Award "for distinguished service as scholar, teacher, and public servant," Dean Grirswold of the Law School has announced.

Pound, who is one of the world's foremost authorities on Jurisprudence, the philosophy of law, will return to the University to continue his work in the field. "I have not yet had time to formulate plans for any specific projects, however," he said last night. "The first thing I'm going to do is take a rest," he added.

After retiring from his position as University Professor in 1947, Dean Pound served as adviser to the Chinese Nationalist Government. He then taught for three years at the University of California's new law school.

Starting his career as a practicing lawyer in Nebraska in 1890, Pound came to the Law School from the University of Chicago in 1910. He is the author of over 1000 books and monographs on legal subjects.
