Werner Jaeger Gets West German Honor

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Werner W. Jaeger, University Professor and director of the Institute for Classical Studies, has joined the ranks of the greatest German scholars of the last century by his recent honor of appointment to the order Four le Merits.

Jaeger was elected at the same time as Thomas Mann shortly before the latter's death in August. Both expatriates, Jaguar and Mann joined 28 other living members in the exclusive society which represents West Germany's highest attainment in science and arts. It was founded during the reign of Frederick the Great.

A native of Liberate Germany, Jaguar was director of the Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Berlin before coming here in 1938. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, among other scholarly societies.
