Tenley Albright '57 returned to her Newton home yesterday from her European title-winning tour, with one of the U.S.'s two Olympic gold medals. An injured right ankle caused cancellation of skating exhibitions which would have kept her in Europe until March 3.
For five hours yesterday, Tenley, her mother, and 13 other Americans were held by Communist authorities at the East Berlin airport because they lacked visas for East Germany.
The slashed ankle will force Tenley to rest for a few days before beginning practice for the nationals at Philadelphia on March 14, in which she hopes to avenge her defeat last week by Olympic runner-up Carol Heiss at Garnisch, Germany. Tenley said the practice injury was a definite factor in her loss to Miss Heiss.
