Tenley Takes Lead In Skating Tourney

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Tenley Albright skated to a delicate lead over Carol Heiss in the United States Figure Championships which began yesterday at Philadelphia.

All five judges voted Tenley first place in the school figures, which compose 60 percent of the contest scoring. Miss Heiss is only a few points behind as the free skating competition, original choreography to four minutes of music, opens today.

Tenley and Miss Heiss rate even in the free skating; though Miss Heiss probably is the flashier and more daring skater, Tenley is conceded greater form and finesse.

The winner of the match today will be the undisputed ladies champion. Tenley took the Olympics Feb. 2, in Cortina, Italy, but Miss Heiss came back 16 days later to win the world championship in Garmisch, Germany.
