The Brussels World's Fair, to begin in March of 1958, will feature an exhibit prepared by four members of the Metallurgy Group of the University's Division of Engineering and Applied Physics.
Bruce Chalmers, Gordon McKay Professor of Metallurgy, heads the team working on the project, which is being financed by the National Science Foundation. The exhibit demonstrates how ice forms in super-cooled water.
Super-cooled water is water which has been chilled to a temperature below zero degrees Centigrade, without being allowed to freeze. When the chilling process stops, the water quickly freezes into small crystals resembling snowflakes.
