Straus South can clinch the freshman intramural race by picking up only 100 additional points during the spring sports season which begins next week.

The Straus South team now holds 5301/2 points, followed by Thayer Middle with 454, according to official standings released yesterday by Adolph W. Samborski, director of intramural athletics.

Freshman participation in the intramural program has already topped participation during any previous complete year, Samborski announced. During the fall and winter seasons, 757 of the 1069 members of the class took part in the program.

Andrew Leaf holds the freshman class record for participation in the most sports, having played on eight different Thayer Middle teams.

William Alexander, William L. Jouhin, and Peter Tolkmith have taken part in seven sports, and James M. Bardeen, David M. Donaldson, Lincoln E. Ford, Jay F. Hundley, Kelvin L. Kean, Thomas W. Lloyd, Joel H. Pitcoff, and Richard A. Saval have participated in six sports.

The Yardling softball season begins next Tuesday, and dormitory tennis tournaments will get under way on the same date. Rowing and track meets will be held in mid-May.

Three Others in Running

Thayer Middle, Grays, and Mower are still in the running for the overall championship. Winners of the softball championship can pick up 100 points toward the freshman championship, and the dormitory which wins the tennis, rowing, and track events can net 40 points. Teams also receive one point for each individual participating.

Straus South, champion of basketball, the only "major sport," and of hockey and touch football, leads in the race for the intramural championship with 5301/2 points. Thayer Middle, which has won the cross-country, boxing, and fencing championships, is current runner-up with 454 points.
