HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
The University's uniformed constabulary has become more unmistakable than ever this fall by having had a small, white insignia placed on their left coatsleeves.
The new distinction, which identifies the wearer as a member of the HARVARD UNIVERSITY POLICE, was decreed, it is rumored, after the following sequence of events.
The Business School's guardians of the peace, who patrol in a small section of Boston, had been required by Boston police regulations, to wear yellow bands on their caps.
Some of the officers felt slighted, it is said, because the bands made them look like MTA inspectors. As a compromise, therefore, someone thought up the plan of the new, inoffensive insignia for all of Harvard's Finest.
