MacLeish Postpones Planned Retirement For Extra Year

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Archibald MacLeish, Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory, has decided to postpone his retirement for at least one more year, he disclosed yesterday.

"I'm primarily a writer, not a teacher," MacLeish said, "but I have great feeling for my attachment with the University." MacLeish, who came to Harvard in 1949, is currently in his eleventh year on the Faculty. Now 67, he reached possible retirement age two years ago.

His present plans, however, allow for instructing only one course next year. He currently teaches Humanities 136, "Poetry and Experience," and English S, an advanced course in creative writing.

Next month, NBC will present Secret of Freedom, a television play which MacLeish wrote recently.
