Sweeping seven out of eight matches, the varsity wrestling team racked up its second straight victory by defeating a weak Dartmouth squad Saturday night, 27, to 3.
Capt. Joe Noble and Bob Foster, the Crimson's two unbeaten members, stretched their winning streaks to four apiece. Noble, at 157, shut out the Indians' John Chilson, 5-0. Foster recorded an equally one-sided win, beating 177 pounder Jay Crane, 9 to 2.
Subbing for the injured Dave Skeels, Carl Kludt pinned Larry Zacharia, at 130, in 4:16. Other falls were racked up by Rick Sullivan, at 167, and by heavy-weight Ted Robbins. Sullivan beat Dartmouth's Jim Lawrence in 7:38, and Robbins pinned Bob Davidow in 2:33.
A 137-pound sophomore, Ron Heinmann, scored the Big Green's only victory. He beat the varsity's John Watkins on a 10-6 decision. Elsewhere, the Crimson's superiority was clearly marked. Dick Steinzig, wrestling for the first time this season at 123, edged Mike Duffy, 8-7. Sophomore Nick Estabrook rounded out the varsity scoring with a 9-7 decision over Hop Holmberg at 147.
Coach Bob Pickett called the victory "a good one to get right after exams" but said that the team has "a lot of work to do" before it can handle the rest of the league. The varsity faces a "pretty good" Columbia squad next Saturday in New York.
