Varsity Tennis Team Will Play In South During Spring Vacation

The varsity tennis team will leave this weekend on its annual spring vacation trip south. This year, the team will spend all its time at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.

Originally, Coach Jack Barnaby reported, the varsity was scheduled to stop at Duke and at North Carolina, but these two teams decided to travel further south to Florida, rather than wait at home to play the Crimson.

The varsity, therefore, has scheduled matches at Clinton with two other visiting Northern schools, Kenyon College of Ohio and Kalamazoo of Michigan. The tennis team will also play against Presbyterian and Clemson during the Southern trip.

Six returning lettermen from last year's Ivy League championship team will lead the squad, headed by Captain Ned Weld. Other lettermen include Tim Gallwey. Fred Vinton, Bill Wood, Laurie Pratt and Jim Cameron. In addition, there are several promising sophomores prospects, especially Bob Bowditch, Jorge Lemann and Bob Schwartzman, the aces of last year's excellent freshman team.

According to Barnaby, the team again shapes up as one of the strongest in the Ivy League, and the race should go down once again to the final match between the Crimson and Yale. The Elis have their top six men back intact from the squad the varsity upset last spring for the Ivy League title.
