James D. Watson, recipient of the 1962 Nobel prize for Medicine and Surgery, gave a special unannounced lecture to Natural Sciences 5 yesterday.
He was received enthusiastically by students who had been told the class was be "an optional discussion meeting.
For about 40 minutes, Watson, a professor of Biology, spoke informally of the steps which led to his discovery of the molecular structure of DNA with Francis Crick.
Watson received word only on Thursday that he had won the Nobel Prize. His share of the award is worth approximately $14,000.
