Conway, Dullea Will Miss Game; Injuries Shuffle Penn Backfield

By Donald E. Graham

Harvard and Penn, losers last week by a combined total of 103 points, will go into this week's game with lineups severely altered by injuries.

Harvard has definitely lost fullback Pat Conway, who suffered a hip injury, and kicking specialist Maury Dullea, who sprained an ankle in the JV game Friday.

Conway's top replacement, Stan Yastrzemski, still has a shoulder injury but should be able to play on Saturday.

Among others who came out of Saturday's 48-0 loss to Dartmouth with serious problems are end Ken Boyda, with a knee injury to go with his almost permanent shoulder problem; quarterback Tom Bilodean, still bothered by a painful charley horse; and tackle Steve Diamond, who played only 13 minutes because of leg and shoulder trouble.

MacDonald May Advance

Yastrzemski will probably start at fullback Saturday. Backing him up will be Lloyd MacDonald, a junior who convinced John Yovicsin that he's ready to play varsity ball by running for 17 yards in throe carries late Saturday.

More serious is the problem at quarterback; Bilodeau had difficulty even kneeling to hold the ball for practice place kicks Saturday. Yovicsin feels that John McCluskey has still not recovered the top running form he showed against Massachusetts (he pulled a hamstring muscle in that game).

Yovicsin won't decide on a quarterback until he sees how his top two men come along during the week. If Bilodeau isn't well by Saturday, it's possible that sophomore Ray Kubacki will get another chance.

Penn Plagued

Harvard has a problem, but it is nothing compared to Penn's. The Quakers lost two members of their starting backfield and a top end while losing to Princeton 55-0, Saturday.

Barry Ellman, the team's top ground gainer and starting right halfback, has an infected foot and won't play. Even more seriously hurt is left half Whit Smith, with a broken vertebra.

Backfield Shifted

To cope with the injuries, Penn coach John Stiegman has shuffled his starting backfield like a deck of cards. Bruce Molloy, the starting quarterback, has been moved to fullback. Sophomore Tony Thompson, who started at fullback last week, goes over to right halfback. Senior Joe Schulz moves in at left half.

Either Chuck Riley or Buzz Hannum will be starting quarterback.

Meanwhile, starting end Denny Lynch has a broken arm that will keep him out of action, too.

All this is obviously going to scramble the Quakers' offense, but there is some question whether it will get much worse. Penn has scored three touchdowns in five games this year.
