Olney Rowland Croasdale Jr. '65, of Winthrop House and Daylesford, Pa., will captain next year's varsity track team. The premier weightman on this year's squad. Croasdale succeeds middle distance runner Ed Meehan.
The 6' 4", 225-lb. junior will be the first field performer to captain a Harvard track team since 1956. He will be the beneficiary of a strong group of holdovers from this year's Heptagonal-winning squad.
During his freshman year, Croasdale was hailed as a potential 60' shot-putter, but those hopes were dashed when Art suffered a crippling sprained tendon in his throwing hand. Still unable to give the shot that extra oomph, Art set a University record this spring with a 57' 4" put in the Greater Boston Championships.
The blond behemoth also excels in the hammer throw, where he took first place in the Penn relays with a 179' 10" toss.
Three other Harvard record-holders will join Coasdale on the 1965 squad. They are sophomore Chris Pardee, who has high-jumped 6' 9", junior John Bakkensen, who has twirled the discus 177' 6 1/2", and sophomore Tony Lynch who has been clocked at 0:52.4 in the 440-yard intermediate hurdles.
