Students at Ed School To Aid King, Gartland

An estimated 40 Ed school students last night volunteered to lend a hand in the Boston School Committee campaign battles of Melvin King and Arthur Gartland.

Addressing a Longfellow Hall meeting called by several Ed School faculty members, Gartland and King explained some of the campaign issues and expressed confidence that they could both be seated in the November election with sufficient numbers of campaign workers.

King declared that "in this election, the major campaign issue is unfortunately related to racism and bigotry." Gartland and King placed fifth and sixth respectively in the primary balloting for the five-man board.

Gartland also announced that the Harvard-Radcliffe Young Democrats next week will address and mail 50,000 letters supporting his and King's election.
