The S.S. Harvard Victory, a cargo ship built in 1945, has left the moth-ball fleet for the Vietnam war.
The ship is one of 20 owned by the Maritime Administration that are named after United States colleges and universities. Officials began using the names of colleges after they had exhausted the supply of names of promontories and capes.
The S.S. Harvard Victory, which did transport work at the end of World War II, is about 450 feet long and carries a cargo of 10,000 tons. It will have a crew of 45 to 50 civilians.
