Pusey Soliciting Suggestions For New Law Dean

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

At a special meeting yesterday, President Pusey invited Law School faculty members to give him their recommendations for a successor to Dean Erwin N. Griswold. He also asked for personal evaluations of the school's strengths and weaknesses.

This is the first step in the selection of a new dean, Pusey said. He will soon ask the views of various alumni groups and the school's Visiting Committee.

The President's actions do not preclude the traditional formation of a Faculty committee on selection later this year. He estimated that the search will take most of the academic year, with a decision coming no sooner than April.

A. James Casner, presently associate dean, will be named acting dean when Griswold retires to become U.S. Solicitor General. Griswold said Monday that he will be leaving within two weeks, although he does not yet know when the Senate will confirm his appointment.
