Blizard Suggests Firing Galbraith From DAC Post

A member of the Massachusetts State Democratic Committee has asked that John Kenneth Galbraith, Paul M. Warburg Professor of Economics and chairman of the Americans for Democratic Action, be fired from his post on the Action be fired from the Massachusetts Democratic Advisory Council.

The attack on Galbraith came during Saturday's meeting of the State Democratic Committee which endorsed President Johnson and his Vietnam policies. Before the vote on the resolution endorsing Johnson, committee member Margaret G. Blizard of Norwood called upon chairman Lester S. Hyman to dismiss Galbraith from the Council.

Hyman dissuaded Mrs. Blizard from presenting a formal motion calling for Galbraith's removal and postponed action on her request until the committee's next meeting in March.

Mrs. Blizard cited Galbraith's activities as chairman of the A.D.A. She quoted him as saying "The A.D.A. suports no candidates and no party." Mrs. Blizard contended that this position was inconsistent with the responsibilities held by Galbraith as a member of the Council.

The Council, from which retired General James M. Gavin resigned last August, has only an advisory function. It was created in January under the sponsorship of Senator Edward M. Kennedy '54 (D-Mass.) and Hyman to gather intellectuals to advise the State Committee.
