Holworthy Widens Lead, Drives for Frosh Title

With most of the winter season completed, Holworthy continues to lead the race for the freshman intramural crown. The Yard's perennial "jock" dorm increased its slim fall lead to a margin of more than fifty points over second place Matthews South.

Over half of Holworthy's winter points came from a first place finish in basketball. Holworthy also grabbed second in boxing, third in swimming, and fourth in wrestling.

Matthews South moved from fourth in the fall standings to a strong second. South has outscored Holworthy so far in the winter season to move slightly closer to first than it was in the fall, while the other teams have dropped back. South captured the boxing and wrestling crowns, and picked up many participation points in the process.

Hurlbut, second by only six-tenths of a point in the fall standings, has dropped to fifth. Soccer and cross country champs in the fall, Hurlbut's highest finish so far this winter is a sixth in the swimming meet.

Thayer South and Matthews North hold third and fourth at present. Thayer is just 100 points behind Holworthy with 274.8; Matthews trails Thayer by three. Thayer won the swimming meet and finished third in basketball to mass the bulk of their winter points, while Matthews scored with seconds in basketball and wrestling and supplied over half the players for the champion West Yard hockey team.

Volleyball, squash, and fencing are now in progress, but Holworthy will probably still be in first when the final winter standings are compiled.
