A fire destroyed one wall of the living room of Eliot B-53 last night. No one was injured.
The fire was reported by Lawrence A. Darby '67, who lives in the room. He found his room filled with smoke when he returned from supper at 6:55 p.m.
Although damage from smoke was extensive, James G. Niven '67, Darby's roommate, said that only a stereo speaker, a sofa, and a chair appeared to be irreparably damaged.
Firemen said that the blaze probably started in the sofa--perhaps by a cigarette--and had been smoldering for several hours before it was discovered.
It has not been decided when the room will be repaired, but the students will be able to remain in the suite because the damage was limited to the living room.
Besides Niven and Darby, David T. Lawrence '67 and Frederick L. Dabney Jr. '69 also live in Eliot B-53.
