Undefeated Harriers Meet Cornell; Squad at Full Strength for Race

Harvard's undefeated cross country team will line up against winless Cornell at Franklin Park this noon in an effort to extend their dual meet winning streak to twenty in a row.

The Crimson harriers will be at full strength today for the first time in three weeks. Tim McLoone and Erik Roth have shaken off their leg and foot injuries and will return to action. Though under orders to be cautious on the hills today, McLoone may be able to compensate by opening up on the lengthy flat stretches of the 5.5-mile Franklin Park course.

Roth is somewhat below peak form and may run cautiously in his first attempt to regain a slot in the top five.

In any case, the Crimson should place at least five runners in front of the Cornell leader. Captain Doug Hardin had his best week of work yet, and the steady redhead should be ready to challenge Royce Shaw's bid for a fifth consecutive victory. Shaw's vow not to shave until beaten still stands, however. The lanky junior has performed with surprising consistency thus far.

Close behind this pair should be Tom Spengler, Keith Colburn, and Dave Pottetti.

Sophomore Howie Foye has been making quiet, unspectacular progress behind the front-runners. Far from being one of the leading lights on last year's freshman squad, Foye made the jump to five miles with ease, running the best race of his career to finish fifth against Brown.

John Heyburn, Jon Enscoe, Max Schweizer, and Pete Dennehy provide the Crimson with the strongest set of backup runners in the league and should keep the pressure on Cornell's top men today.

The Big Red has only two runners who could pose a threat to Harvard's top men today. Sophomore Jon Anderson has won both Cornell meets to date, but is still relatively untested. Junior captain Bruce Earle placed fifth against Harvard as Cornell's top man last year and has proved a consistent second runner in meets so far.

The meet is scheduled for noon with the freshman preliminary beginning at 11:30.
