Crossman to Deliver 1970 Godkin Lectures

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Richard Crossman, Leader of the British House of Commons since 1966, will deliver this year's Godkin Lectures.

The lectures will be given live on April 7, 8, and 9 in Austin Hall at the Law School, rather than being pre-taped for television presentation as were last year's talks by John W. Gardner.

Donald K. Price, dean of the Kennedy School of Government, which annually sponsors the series, said that Crossman preferred to speak to a live audience. Price added that television performances were "miserable for both media" and "destroyed the spontaneity of the audience."

Price said that Crossman was now negotiating with WGBH-TV (Channel 2) on the possibility of giving additional lectures solely for TV.

Friends of E. L. Godkin founded the series in 1903 to present lectures on "the essentials of free government and the duties of the citizen." Crossman has not yet announced the topic of the lectures.
